Minutes from Glenwood PTO Meeting
May 8, 2007
PTO Co-President Jessica Bivens welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m. Members in attendance were Jessica Bivens, Rebecca Fahey, Pam Wyatt, Mary Yaun, Sharon Dowdy, Nan Shugart, Jeanie Phillips and Linda Twohig.
Principal's Report: Mrs. Goins was unable to attend the meeting so Jeanie Phillips reported for her. Everything is going well and things are gearing down towards the end of the school year. Parents, stay abreast of the budget!
Minutes: Aprils minutes were available for review & discussion. Motion by Nan Shugart that the minutes be accepted; seconded by Mary Yaun. Motion passed unanimously.
Treasurer's Report: The Treasurers Report was available for review & discussion. The only major change was an entry for Cubs On Track. Motion by Pam Wyatt that the report be accepted; seconded by Nan Shugart. Motion passed unanimously.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Cubs On Track: Jessica Bivens reported that this year Cubs On Track did better than projected. A total of $5,368 was received. We did have to pay $296.04 for ribbons, but this will take care of the ribbons needed for next year as well as part of the needs for the following school year.
Book Fair: There was no representative at the meeting for a report. Jessica Bivens said that it is her understanding they are still in great need of volunteers for Friday night during the Spring Picnic as well as for the Kindergarten class visits. E-mail Lynda Marcoux or Kasi Ross if you are available to help in any way.
Spring Picnic: There was no representative at the meeting for a report. Spring Picnic will be on Friday, May 18th, 5 8 pm.
Teacher Requests:
- Missy McCallen submitted a request for $240 + shipping/handling for reimbursement of the bear costume purchased off E-bay. This item has already been bought because they only had 2 hours to buy it once they found on E-bay. We have been paying $60 each time we have rented the bear costume in the past. The total amount requested came to $268.50. Motion made by Pam Wyatt that we approve this request; seconded by Linda Twohig. Motion passed unanimously. (Will be paid from Classroom/Student Expenditures account).
- Missy McCallen submitted at request for materials to be used in the Kindergarten packets (i.e. dice, crayons, bears). These packets go to all preschool students and incoming Kindergarten students. The packet includes registration forms, a PTO newsletter, dice, crayons, a bear as well as a parent/student workbook. Total requested: $81.87. Nan Shugart made a motion that we approve this request; seconded by Rebecca Fahey. Motion passed unanimously. (Will be paid from Classroom/Student Expenditures account).
- Becky Hook submitted a request for a Smart Talk, card sets for the Smart Talk and an AC adapter totaling $217.70. A Smart Talk is an electronic language acquisition tool with three levels (word, learn, quiz). This machine will help to develop language skills as she has several students with limited vocabulary. The entire class will use the machine to improve their listening, vocabulary and thinking skills. She currently has three non-verbal students, and they need this device to begin learning cause and effect. Rebecca Fahey made a motion that we approve this request; seconded by Linda Twohig.
NEW BUSINESS:
Playground: Nan Shugart has purchased the USA stencil ($98.99) that is to be painted outside. She and Mona Ridener will get the paint needed (red, blue, yellow and orange) at Home Depot. Since we will not have access to the school through the summer except on a limited schedule, Nan will try and coordinate a date for painting the map.

Budget Proposal Workday for 07/08 School Year:
Jessica Bivens will be contacting all Board Members and Committee Chairs to set up a date to establish a budget for the next school year. One thing we will probably do is scale down what we do for Teacher Appreciation i.e. change from having Fabulous Friday once a month to possible once a quarter, etc.
Teacher Gift: At the beginning of the year we talked about recognizing the teacher who attended the most PTO meetings by giving them a gift at the end of the school year. Jeanie Phillips attended the most meetings. It was brought to the table that the PTO purchase a gift certificate for Jeanie for a 1 hour massage at Touch of Grace. A motion was made by Jessica Bivens that we approve this request; seconded by Nan Shugart. Motion passed unanimously.
