Principals report

Ms. McCallen reported for Ms. Pearl Goins:

  • An overview was given of the grades that were published in the Oak Ridger for all Oak Ridge City Schools from the State.  She also reported Glenwood's individual scores.   Glenwood had the most gains of all the schools, and this is something we can all be proud of.  The teachers have really worked hard over the past two years to help our students/school achieve these scores.  They will all receive t-shirts with the Future So Bright logo at Christmas in appreciation of their hard work.  Ms. McCallen reported that these shirts would be purchased with some of the money the PTO has budgeted for her and Ms. Goins' request during the school year.

  • DRA testing will begin the second week in January.

  • The reading goals set for these nine weeks were met 100%.  The bar will be raised for the next nine weeks.

  • Ms. McCallen wanted to thank the PTO for the $300 given to the Oak Ridge Fire Dept. for the Risk Watch Program Books that were given to the students during the Fire Dept's visit to the school.  These books contained 11 topics of danger for children.

  • She also wanted to thank the PTO (on behalf of the teachers) for the Fabulous Fridays.  The teachers really appreciate this treat each month!

Committee Reports

Teacher Appreciation
Mary Yaun reported -

  • Mary Yaun talked about upcoming ideas for future Fabulous Fridays.  A sign up sheet was available if anyone could help with this week's treat.

Fall Fundraiser
Cassie DeJarnette reported:

  • Cassie DeJarnette reported that the fundraiser was over, and we made over $12,000.00.  However, $800 still remains as being uncollected.  There is still some cookie dough left, and it will be announced to the staff that this cookie dough will be for sale through Friday at $10/tub

New Business

Newsletter:

Mary Yaun asked if anyone had something they would like to have included in the newsletter for December & January to please get that information to her within the next couple of weeks.  (Thank you, Mary, for all your work on the newsletter!)

Awning:

There had been some discussion about the PTO possibly contributing to the purchase/construction of an awning out front.  Ms. McCallen reported that this item is included in the long-term maintenance plan for the 2008 budget.  There was discussion during this meeting that maybe we could look at some type of permanent structure(s) for the playground.  Woodland has a nice covered concrete pavilion, and it would be worth us taking a look at it for ideas.

Grandparent's Day:

Two individuals (no names mentioned) have shown an interest in helping with this event.  Ms. McCallen will get with Cassie and obtain their names.  Missy said that she would talk with Ms. Casey to see if she would like to help as far as having the students learn some songs, etc.

Teacher and Staff Requests:

  • Ms. Hodgers brought a poster to the meeting that was donated by Melanie & Jared Braden to the Art Room.  She would like to request $115 to cover the cost of framing and mounting of this poster so that it could be displayed in the hall.  Rebecca Fahey made a motion that this request be approved; seconded by Jessica Bivens. (Vote was taken after Ms. Hodgers left the meeting).  Cassie will notify Ms. Hodgers that her request was approved.

Meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m
