Committee Reports
Teacher Appreciation
Mary Yaun reported -
- Mary reported that there was not enough food and that teachers/staff ate earlier than the 11:00 am time schedule. She plans to have the food ready by 8:30 am for next month's "Fabulous Friday". The theme will be "We are falling for our teachers" and it will feature food items such as cheese, crackers and fruit.
- Mary is investigating the possibility of providing teachers with 15-minute massages during the week of May 7, 2007. More on this later.

- The Book Fair was very successful! The PTO gave away $4,000.00 worth of books, which benefited the students, teacher's classrooms, and the library. All of the teacher's classroom wish lists were filled and every student received a free book.
Fall Fundraiser
Cassie DeJarnette reported:
- The fundraiser is going well. The students qualifying for the Hummer Ride will have this opportunity on Monday, October 16th. The Mega Party is schedule for next Tuesday, October 17 and all of the students will be attending for some period of time.
New Business
Social Club:
Jessica Bivens asked Ms. McCallen if the PTO could host a "once a month coffee" in the cafeteria so that Glenwood parents could have an opportunity to get to know each other. Jessica mentioned that at our last PTO meeting, the parents were supportive of this idea. Ms. McCallen thought it was a good idea and supported the PTO in using the cafeteria once a month for this purpose.
Thank You Letter to PTO:
Ms. Moehl presented the PTO with thank you letters that her Language Arts class had written regarding the zoo assembly. The students wrote long letters from the heart! Thank you, students!
Teacher and Staff Requests:
- Ms. McCallen asked the PTO to help Glenwood School show its support and appreciation to our local Fire Department for doing so much to educate our students on fire safety by giving $300.00. to the Fire Department. This year, the Fire Department purchased a "Risk Watch" workbook for every Glenwood student at a cost of $1.00. These workbooks contain seven components of safety risks and the workbooks educate children on how to avoid these risks. Motion made by Mary Yaun to give $300.00 to the Fire Department; second by Vickie Quick. Ms. McCallen said that the Fire Department will be at Glenwood this Thursday, October 12 to work with our students on safety. Cassie DeJarnette will instruct the PTO Treasurer to get the $300.00 check to Ms. McCallen tomorrow so that the money can be given to the Fire Department on Thursday.
Cassie DeJarnette mentioned that at our next PTO meeting in November, Shannon Newman with the Police Department would be speaking to PTO parents on crime prevention and safety in our neighborhood. Ms. McCallen offered to organize some fun math and reading activities for the children who come with their parents to this meeting.
- Ms. Phillips made a request for a heavy-duty pencil sharpener ($50 - 60). Nan Shugart made a motion that we approve this request; second by Jessica Bivens.
- Ms. Phillips made a request on behalf of the first grade teachers that a mega phone be purchased for first grade use. Nan Shugart made a motion that we approve this request; second by Jessica Bivens.
